Chartered in 1869, the charming Village of Carthage is located along the Black River in the scenic North Country area of New York State. This secluded area provides beautiful views as well as a feeling of peace and comfort to Forest Hills’ residents. The friendly, close-knit community of Carthage and the neighborhood setting of Forest Hills are ideal for raising a family. The Village is home to many local businesses making Forest Hills residents less than a mile away from a variety of choices for shopping and dining, and the local hospital is less than a mile down the road. Rewarding educational experiences can be obtained through the Carthage Central School District, or if you are looking for private schooling, Augustinian Academy is less than a mile away and welcomes students in grades K-8.

 

Forest Hills is within walking distance to the newly renovated Carthage Park and Recreation Center which provides a family-friendly environment with plenty of recreational options for every season. During the warmer months enjoy the multiple baseball fields, large wooden playground, hiking trails, and skate park. When it snows the trails are perfect for winter activities like snowshoeing and cross country skiing. Summer programs are also available at the park, presenting children with a fun-filled way to spend their summer break.

 

If you want to escape small town life, there are countless opportunities to get away for the day. Ten miles down the road you will find the historic military town of Fort Drum, where there’s lots to do and learn. The City of Watertown is less than 20 miles away and serves as a central location for the surrounding rural communities, providing a more city-like culture for the residents of Forest Hills. Watertown is home to many small businesses that contribute to the local economy, including a large assortment of shops and restaurants. Carthage is just minutes away from the picturesque Thousand Island region of New York and a short drive to the tranquil Adirondack Park—both provide breathtaking views of Northern New York and are perfect for family trips or just a weekend getaway.
